Documentation

Documentation is a very valuable asset in order to keep system running. It is extremely common for us at Tru Consulting to ask a question about an existing system at a new client and the answer is unknown, usually because the person that deployed the system has left the company. Documentation mitigates this issue and allows anyone to quickly understand the systems.

Documentation can also be used to bring configurations back to the intended set as often config creep can cause systems to become less reliable. The final importance of documentation comes when disaster strikes. Rebuilding a server from scratch without any reference to how it should be configured is problematic at best.
